Late winter pruning suits most species here. The tree is about to push new growth, so cuts seal faster, and you can see the structure clearly before the canopy thickens up.
The real deadline in Queensland is storm season. Deadwood, overextended limbs and heavy canopies should be sorted by October or November, because summer storms find every weak point you didn't get to.
Some jobs shouldn't wait for a season at all. Dead or hanging branches, limbs touching the roof or pool fence, and anything near powerlines are now jobs, not spring jobs.
Palms are their own story: they're best cleaned once or twice a year whenever the fronds and seed pods build up, and there's no wrong month for it.
